Summer…so sweet of a word! When I think about my summer plans, I smile. I joyfully laugh. I am happy. Summer seems to be so far away right now, with all the work that just has to be done (be that annoying, interesting, or just whatever), but making plans up is so dramatically, profoundly sweet! Knowing that with the cheap student flights, the entire world is open for me, I feel free like a unbound bird, truly, that is anticipating its grand flight, with wings spread out and head proudly tilted.

There are so many hidden secret places in Europe that I have never visisted before, and with cheap international airfares to literally any place in this immense assortment of ancient and modern colors, sounds, and sights, I can choose anything! Obviously, place number one on my  ”flights to Europe” list,  to Europe that is mysterious, passionate, wild, and never-ending, is France. My old-time favorite is Paris. Sadly, I have never been there…ever…is that not unfair? I have studied the French culture for such a long period of time, speak flught French, but never, EVER got a chance to visit this gigantic, beautififul, puzzling, electrifying, pied, and surely romantic collection of historical personages, buildings, and general ambiance.

With my hands shaking a bit from the overwhelming anticipation of a fantastic get-away, I type in “flights to Europe” in google, and click search. Obviously, since I am so anxious to find out the prospects of my future (at least, in the “summer” connotation…this time), my computer has to take a while, and I am staring at the screen as at the long-awaited messenger between my future fairy and me, in the present time. Wow, finally! I figure that out of all international flights, the student airfare is the cheapest, and I obviously decide to go with it. I have made my decision! I am going to France, in July, and now, instead of sweetly anticipating just the possible trip to any place in the world, I am going to countdown until the time my plane lands in Charles-De- Gaulle, and lets me out to the freedom, folly, harmony, and fantasy of Paris!!

See, I do not always think about eyelashes (see previous). Sometimes (I agree, it is rare), I do think about work. Like, for example, I was thinking about this one little thing about my job that is bothering me. I do some managerial work in a certain company (go privacy!!), and sometimes the work load becomes too  high, meaning, there are so many projects to work on, and there are so many people to work with on every single one of those projects that it does get sad…Honestly! So, since computers are our good friends, is there some sort of a program that would help a manager solve all those problems at the most efficient level? And yes, there is!

After searching the Internet for about 12 sec, I found out that there are a number of project management software programs that basically take care of all the annoying planning, collaboration, etc, etc. Some of these programs are web-based project management software, not computer- based, but still, they do so much! They allow for project tracking, labeling (i.e., finished, in progress, needs to be done right now, etc, etc), task assignment, time left calculation, and so much more! Indeed, the project manager software is really bliss to a manager like me, who is running around with a bunch of papers stalked together, and never knowing what to find on which little paper. I love organizing, but, hey, sometimes it just gets to be so messy that I start to hate organizing! The project management software is so good for this.

Another thing I like so much about these project management programs is that they use the Gantt charts (for those of us that are a bit confused, a Gantt chart is like a progress chart, it shows you where you are in terms of your progress, how much you got done, and how much is left to do). I mean, I pretty much always know what it is that I am doing, but when you are working on like five projects and people that work with you on those screw you up, you don’t know anymore where exactly you are. The progress charts are just great for these little confusions! (I wish they were little…but they really are not!!). So yes, go Gantt charts, and go project management software!!

A couple of days ago, I got a call from my aunt from a central European country (see, I am so popular that chances are, you know me…and in that case, you might know my aunt in central Europe…just kidding…got it?:-)). So, she asked me about how I have been, and bla-bla-bla, I said that I am fine (well, she really does not want to know about all my little things…you know…). After about an hour and a half of our conversation (thank you, Verizon, for not cutting the service on me!!), I figured out that she is moving to States with her husband, and they are moving to Texas. Okay. I mean, I am happy. Well…maybe not so much. Well, no, I really am. Whatever. The bottom line was that she wanted me (why me??) to find a place for her to live in Houston, TX. I tried to say that I was kind of busy, but her direct tone and warning intonations right away made me realize that maybe being busy at that period of time is not the best thing that I could do in my life…if I wanted to live sanely and more or less calmly…If not, I could totally expect her to blow my calmness away…and that’s it, the end of the story.

So, the first thing I did after hanging up with my aunt is that I called a group of Houston realtors that I found online (go type “Houston Real Estate” in Google and see what YOU get!). Obviously, the type of living number one that they suggested was Houston condos. When I inquired about the average price of those, I realized two things. First, I did not wish my aunt bad. Second…by the time I was done realizing the first thing, I forgot what the second one was.

Then, I opened up the map, and started to feel like a detective. Having never been in Houston, I figured that I’d just pick some of the areas that seemed nicer to me and see what that gives me. Google always helps, so after typing in “Central Houston real estate”, “Houston Heights Real Estate”, “Houston Memorial Real Estate”, and “Houston Medical Center Real Estate” and looking at the prices, I figured that typing in “Houston Homes For Rent” will help much more… and so it was! Out of all Houston, TX, real estate combinations, I realized (for which time I am realizing something in this process??) that renting would be a much better deal for them…my aunt and her husband, I mean. After all, if you rent, you are not tied to the place as much, and is that not what I wanted in first place??

After the conversation with my aunt (as you know, such a memorable event happened not that long ago), I suddenly felt an urge to change something in my life. You know how if you are depressed or just in a bad mood for a long period of time, then you feel like changing something around you? Well, I think that the conversation was such a shock for me that it was enough to make me want to change something. So, I looked at myself in the mirror. I’m ok, I think, if I sleep and eat enough. But…one thing kept bothering me, and it was my mascara. Mascara (!!!), you would say? Yes, precisely. See, I’ve always been wanting to have hugely long eyelashes, just like actresses in Hollywood or just models on the covers of popular magazines. I love my mascara, but sometimes it’s just not enough for me. So I thought, what would my eyes look like if my eyelashes were even longer?? A long time ago, in middle school, my best friend told me that if a girl cuts her eyelashes regularly, then they grow much better. Well, we did (I mean, she and I). I haven’t seen her in a long time, but I doubt that mine grew much better after I cut them. I mean, now they’re long, but would they have been longer if I did not cut them in 7th grade?? (if you know the answer to this question, my contact info is somewhere here…in the profile, I mean). So, back to the eyelashes.

A drastic idea came to my head suddenly! What if I try eyelash extensions? I have heard about those, but I do not really know what they are and how they work. Do they just “stick” to your eyes with the eyelash adhesive, or does a specialist have to physically attach them to every single eyelash that I have (I am thinking of hair extensions here)? As always, go Google! After searching for “eyelash extensions” and reading a bit, I figured that they are just like a string of lashes that attach to the eyelid with special eyelash adhesive glue. So, basically, they are like false eyelashes. Sounds intriguing! What I love most about this idea, though, is that the change is not permanent. Like, if I mess up, then I can just take those lash extensions out (or, away), and that’s it! So, should I do it??

UCSD Weight Loss

January 4th, 2008

Do not quote me on this, but I heard somewhere that the leading causes of death in many countries are things like hepatitis, pneumonia, malaria, and other very preventable diseases. Meanwhile, the leading causes of death in the United States are things like heart disease, diabetes, lung and liver cancer, and other diseases due to an excess in lifestyle. I am not sure if this is true, but I think there is a point to be made about the dangers of excess in life, especially in terms of food. Fast food restaurants and junk food companies are gigantic powerhouses enticing tired, poor, or addicted Americans to indulge in just one more cookie or fry. As a consequence, obesity or near obesity is a problem that plagues the majority of American adults. Accordingly, the weight loss industry has ballooned to combat the problem, but even this industry is not without its problems. There are so many weight loss programs and methods out there, that it just does not seem reasonable that all would work. Research in this area pushes knowledge every day, so it is important to keep informed to make sure you stick to a weight loss program that is realistic and reasonable. The best website does not merely push a specific product or exercise machine, but it gives you tips on a variety of exercises, foods, and supplements that will help you start and maintain a weight loss regimen. It contains useful articles on the bodily mechanics of weight gain and weight loss, and how you can use this knowledge to control your own weight loss as you face various life situations such as stress, holiday eating, and unhealthy habits. I was just browsing some pages on on some websites and learned that green tea helps burn carbohydrates. I am no science expert, so I would not have known this without such useful articles. Of course, I now have to learn why it is even important to burn carbohydrates in the first place, but I am sure that my continued research will help me find this information, as well as many other great tips for weight loss. Healthy diet and regular exercise is good for weight loss, but life is more complicated that that, and we need tips to help tackle this problem head on and look forward to a healthier happier life.
