American Chemical Society - NIH Guidelines

April 10, 2008 on 12:00 pm | In Faculty News, Journals | Comments Off

ACS has updated their Author & Reviewer Resource Center to include information about the new NIH guidelines. When the article is accepted, the corresponding author will receive and be asked to complete the NIH Policy Addendum.

For ACS authors whose manuscripts acknowledge research funding support from NIH, the ACS hereby grants to the author the right to provide an electronic copy of the final peer-reviewed manuscript and supporting information to the NIH upon editorial acceptance by the ACS journal as titled above. This grant shall permit public accessibility of the deposited content on the NIH’s PubMed Central database, 12 months after the official date of publication of the final article by ACS.

Nature Geoscience, Nature Protocols, and backfiles

March 7, 2008 on 5:11 pm | In Journals | Comments Off

Two new Nature journals are available to the UCSD community.

Nature Geoscience covers all aspects of earth sciences, including Atmospheric Science, Geochemistry, Geoinformatics, Geophysics, Mineralogy, Planetary Science, Seismology, and Space Physics.

Nature Protocols is an online resource of laboratory protocols, written in a step-by-step “recipe” style so you can immediately apply it to your own research. You can search Nature Protocols by keyword or browse by category: Cheminformatics, Nanotechnology, Spectroscopy, Detection and Probing, Isolation and Purification, Molecular Interactions, Structural Analysis, etc.

We also have added extended backfile access for the flagship Nature journal, now online going back to volume 1, 1869.

New Wiley Journals: ChemMedChem, etc.

March 7, 2008 on 1:24 pm | In Journals | Comments Off

UCSD recently added some new journals from Wiley.

ChemMedChem
IUBMB Life (International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology)
Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering
Scanning, The Journal of Scanning Microscopies

Physics Today Archive

March 5, 2008 on 10:56 pm | In Journals | Comments Off

UCSD now has the Physics Today Archive online, from 1985 to 12 months ago. AIP plans to digitize all issues back to the magazine’s launch in 1948 to create a complete archive.

The archive does not include the last 12 months, but some of the content in those issues is freely available (and we do have them at the S&E Library).

UCSD now has online access to several key German chemistry journals….back to Year One.

ACS Nano - Issue 1

August 25, 2007 on 2:48 pm | In Journals | Comments Off

The first issue ACS Nano is now available.

ACS Nano publishes comprehensive articles on synthesis, assembly, characterization, theory, and simulation of nanostructures (nanomaterials and assemblies, nanodevices, and self-assembled structures), nanobiotechnology, nanofabrication, methods and tools for nanoscience and nanotechnology, and self- and directed-assembly.

ACS Nano will also have an RSS feed to keep up with new articles, and a podcast to highlight articles and news from the journal.

Annals NY Academy of Sciences Backfile

August 10, 2007 on 10:52 am | In Journals | Comments Off

UCSD’s access to the Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences has been extended back to 1879.

    Please keep in mind:

  • There is a gap in coverage between 1879-1892.
  • Regarding preprints: You’ll find this journal has many links in PubMed flagged as “epub ahead of print.” For those items, you will find they are on the Academy’s own site at http://www.nyas.org/annals and the UC E-Links for those articles will not work. (h/t: BML Blog).
  • Do not use the nyas.org site to get the published articles. Our access is through the Blackwell-Synergy site, and is accessible from UC-eLinks, Roger, etc.

Facelift for UC-eLinks

July 29, 2007 on 7:09 pm | In Database News, Journals | Comments Off

The UC-eLinks display has been tweaked and re-organized into a more logical display.

If you access UC-eLinks from a citation in one the databases, you’ll see something like this, where your options are arranged based on 1.) Get it online, 2.) Get it in print at UCSD, and 3.) Request it via Interlibrary Loan.

UC-eLinks

If you access UC-eLinks from a journal record in Roger, it’ll look like this:

Nature Journals Downtime - 6/23

June 22, 2007 on 1:10 pm | In Journals, Known Problems and Down Time | Comments Off

At 9:00 PM (PDT) on Saturday, June 23rd Nature Publishing Group (NPG) expects 15-30 minutes downtime on nature.com and its associated service sites–including the Nature Journals.

If you have trouble accessing the journals beyond the 30 minutes, please e-mail Teri Vogel. NPG will be upgrading key components of the nature.com infrastructure over the next few weeks, and we want to monitor their ‘anticipated’ downtime carefully.
