Science, Nature (& others?): No Word 2007 Manuscripts
June 5, 2007 on 9:37 am | In Science News & Hot Topics | No CommentsIf you’re preparing a manuscript for submission, it’s absolutely crucial you read the publishers “instructions for authors” section in the early stages because you don’t want your work sent back (often without being read) for not following the journal’s style guidelines. And here’s another reason to check.
Currently, Science and Nature are not accepting Word 2007 manuscripts. I scanned a few other publisher sites and did not see much about this. However, there may also be variation among journals from the same publisher (Wiley’s Systems Engineering currently does not accept these files and requests that you save to the older (.doc) version, while Angewandte Chemie IE offers Word 2007 templates).
While this will be a non-issue for many authors, who either submit in other formats or are still using something like Word 2003, it still illustrates the importance of reviewing those publisher instructions carefully.
