New S&E Service Desk Opens!!
September 20, 2006 on 9:07 pm | In News & Events | Comments OffThe new combined Circulation/Reserves and Reference Desk is now open at the S&E Library. We’ve closed up the temporary entrance and reopened our regular entrance. The bookdrop divides the service desk; the Reference and Information will be (your) left of the bookdrop, and Circulation and Reserves will be to the right (where the plant is sitting).

To see more pictures, check out our S&E Remodel pages (phase 1 and 2) and what we’ve been posting on Flickr.
Nat’l Academies Report on Women in Science
September 20, 2006 on 1:27 pm | In News & Events | Comments OffA report “Beyond Bias and Barriers: Fulfilling the Potential of Women in Academic Science and Engineering”, issued by a panel convened by the National Academies concludes that women are underrepresented in academic leadership positions in science and mathematics because of “unintentional biases and outmoded institutional structures that are hindering the access and advancement of women.” The panel’s chairwoman, Donna E. Shalala, president of the University of Miami and a former U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, called the situation “troubling and embarrassing” and described the report as “a call to action.”
Wireless Laptop Printing Now Available
September 11, 2006 on 10:10 am | In News & Events, Tech Tools | Comments OffThe UCSD Libraries now offer wireless printing from your (Windows) laptop to the public networked “Infostation” printers.
Instructions and system requirements are available, and you need to review these before downloading the needed software. Once installed, you’ll see additional printer options for B&W Printers - UCSD Libraries, and Color Printers - UCSD Libraries.
- IMPORTANT
- Windows only.
- Read the disclaimer carefully before agreeing and continuing on to the next page to download the software to your laptop.
- Read the instructions and FAQ’s carefully, as they will address bugs and other issues that we observed while downloading and testing out this software.
- The software is free, but you will need a white Imprints card to release your print jobs. This is not tied to your ACS printing account. Black/white printing is 10 cents/page, and color printing is 50 cents/page. Color printers are available at the Biomedical Library and Social Sciences & Humanities Library.
