Search @ Amazon, Check in Roger

June 27, 2006 on 2:02 pm | In Tech Tools |

Did you know that you can set up a “bookmarket” on your browser to see if book you found at Amazon.com is held by the UCSD Libraries?

Go to the The LibraryLookup Bookmarklet Generator

  1. Enter http://roger.ucsd.edu as the Base URL.

  2. Enter UCSD Libraries as the Library Name.
  3. Select the first vendor, Innovative.
  4. Click Build your own LibraryLookup bookmarklet! On the next page you can test your bookmarklet, and then drag a copy of the link to the bookmark bar to add it to your browser. THIS SHOULD WORK WITH MOST BROWSERS.

When you’re in Amazon.com and on the page for the book you want, just click that bookmarklet. Another browser window will open, and the book will be searched automatically in ROGER. The search is based on ISBN numbers, so choose the Amazon record for the hardback edition (followed by paperback) for the best results.

You can also set up a bookmarklet to locate Amazon titles in Melvyl.

  • Base URL = http://melvyl.cdlib.org

  • Library Name = Melvyl
  • Vendor = Aleph (Older); in the three boxes next to the vendor name, enter 020 in the first box, find-b in the second box, and cdl90 in the third.
