Spectra in SciFinder Scholar 2006

CAS has just added spectra to SciFinder Scholar 2006!

• 142,000 C-13 NMR Spectra from Wiley

• 19,000 Mass Spectra from Wiley
• 28,000 Infrared Spectra from the Integrated Spectral Database System of Organic Compounds (NAIST - Japan)

This for the PC version only. The spectra will not available for OS X until this summer, when CAS releases the Mac version that “catches up” with SFS 2006 for PC’s.

Search for a substance, then click to bring up the Registry record. Links for available spectra are listed under Experimental Properties.

Nature Chemical Biology & Nature Methods (New)

UCSD now has access to 2 of the new Nature journals:

• Nature Methods
  “…a forum for the publication of novel methods and significant improvements to tried-and-tested techniques in the life sciences and related area of chemistry.”

• Nature Chemical Biology
  “…a monthly multidisciplinary journal providing an international forum for the timely publication of significant new research at the interface between chemistry and biology.”

Bioengineering Faculty Spotlight in Technology Review

MIT’s 10-part “Emerging Technologies Report” begins with an article on comparative interactomics (mapping the cellular network of interactions among genes, RNA, metabolites, and proteins), an emerging field that Trey Ideker and Bernhard O. Palsson are helping pioneer.

Older versions of SciFinder Scholar unavailable after 3/31

Starting March 31, only the listed SciFinder Scholar versions will be available. To upgrade, select the appropriate files from the UC SciFinder Site.

• Windows 2006 (most up-to-date version available)

• Macintosh OS X (most up-to-date version available for Macs)
• Macintosh 2004.2

Earlier SFS versions (2002 and 2004) will be discontinued. If you are running an older version, you’ll see a message after you logon reminding you of this change and that you will not be able to run SFS after March 31 unless you update your version. Please contact the Chemistry Librarian if you have any questions.

• Heterocyclic Communications (S&E Current Journals QD 1 H58) and Journal of Porphyrins and Phthalocyanines (S&E Current Journals QD 1 J8366) are available in print only, though we do have JPP online from 1997-2001. Eligible faculty and students may use our Avanti desktop delivery service to get copies of articles.

• Current Organic Chemistry is available online from 2005 to present.
