Encyclopedia of Energy is a comprehensive resource covering the science and policy aspects of energy. There are more than 400 articles, each one with a glossary and bibliography of additional readings.
Chapters: Basics of Energy, Coal, Conservation and End Use, Economics of Energy, Electricity, Energy Flows, Environmental Issues, Global Issues, History and Energy, Material Use and Reuse, Measurement and Models, Nuclear Power, Oil and Natural Gas, Policy Issues, Public Issues, Renewable and Alternative Sources, Risks, Society and Energy, Sustainable Development, Systems of Energy
Comprehensive Structural Integrity (New)
February 13, 2006 on 12:42 pm | In Books and Encyclopedias | Comments OffUCSD now had access to this online reference work from Science Direct. It includes case studies and extensive bibliographies to relevant literature like standards and journal articles.
Comprehensive Structural Integrity: Fracture of Materials from Nano to Macro is an entry point into the literature of structural integrity, including but not limited to fracture mechanics, fatigue, creep, materials, dynamics, environmental degradation, numerical methods, failure mechanisms and damage mechanics, interfacial fracture and nano-technology, structural analysis, surface behavior and heart valves.
Structures covered in this work include: pressure vessels and piping, off-shore structures, gas installations and pipelines, chemical plants, aircraft, railways, bridges, plates and shells, electronic circuits, interfaces, nanotechnology, artificial organs, biomaterial prostheses, cast structures, and mining.
EndNote Web Express (Web of Science)
February 6, 2006 on 10:41 pm | In Database News | Comments OffIf you use Web of Science or Biosis Previews, you can now take advantage of the new EndNote Web Express. To get started, first go to Web of Knowledge and set up your account. In your search results, you’ll now see a Save to My EndNote Web option. You can add up to 1,000 references to your web-based library, organize them into folders that will be retained between your search sessions, and export them into formatted bibliographies.
This is separate from the full-featured version of EndNote that you would purchase and install on your computer.

Web of Science - Enhanced Cross-Search
February 2, 2006 on 11:28 am | In Database News | Comments OffISI has enhanced their CrossSearch in Web of Science to help you find additional references from the last 5 years.
In your search results, you’ll see a link: View additional results in other databases.
The Web of Knowledge tab will give results in Biosis Previews that weren’t in the Web of Science results (and vice versa if you start with Biosis). The External Collections Results tab will give you the CrossSearch results of your search in another dozen databases, with links out to view those results:
- AIAA Meeting Papers American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics
- arXiv ePrint Archives (math, computer science, nonlinear science, physics, quantitative biology)
- Civil Engineering Database
- NASA’s Astrophysics Data System
- NTIS Library Documents published since 1990
