Factiva (New Database)
January 27, 2006 on 3:07 pm | In Database News |UCSD now has access to Factiva. Like Lexis-Nexis, Factiva provides full-text access to local, national and international sources, including newspapers, trade magazines, and journals. There’s some overlap between the two databases, but also an abundance of unique material in each.
You can search across the entire database or limit the search to a single news publication. As a bonus, you can also limit your search to publications within one or more specific industries. Factiva has about 30 industry categories, including Chemicals, Computers & Electronics, Aerospace & Defense, Telecommunications, and Machinery & Industrial Goods (no separate Engineering category, but these titles are spread throughout the other categories). This makes Factiva a good resource for business/industry news as it relates to science and engineering disciplines.
Factiva is optimized for the IE, Firefox and Safari browsers–not Netscape. Science & Engineering Library users who want to learn more about using Factiva should contact Teri Vogel.
