A Review Of A Comparative Credit Card Website
January 21st, 2008
When reviewing a website it is important to know what else is out there to deal with. I have spent a great deal of time looking at a variety of credit card sites that are supposed to offer a comparison of the credit card offers that are current. I have found that through most of these sites they are easy to use, but occasionally there are sites that just make it difficult to find the information you may want. With www.ukfinancialoptions.co.uk you have a very easy site to navigate, but is the content worth a look?
I decided to click on the heading called balance transfer credit cards first. I was hoping for an in- depth look at some of the major credit card deals available. What I found was a lovely chart. The chart contained five credit card companies including Natwest, Virgin, Egg, MBNA Platinum, and RBS Classic. The chart was easy to read with the headings of rate, duration, purchases, typical APR, rewards, and a place to apply. I was hoping that there would be more credit cards to compare on the site in this area however. Then I realized there was more to the page. The top chart was the editor’s choices. In other words the person creating the site put a list of credit cards that they recommended and charted them to help us understand why they might have chosen those cards over the other twenty or so below. The second section below was an alphabetical list of the other credit cards offering a 0% balance charted out with the information you would need to know. When you click on the credit card icon you are taken directly to that banks website. Likewise at the end of the chart is a place where you can apply for the credit card now.
What www.ukfinancialoptions.co.uk offers you when you compare the credit cards is a list of some of the biggest names in the field. In other words there may be other credit cards available that belong to smaller banks, but most likely you are not going to find them on this site. There was one thing that I felt was missing over all on the site when speaking specifically about the credit card section. On the main homepage you have four easy categories to choose from when comparing credit cards. You have 0% balance transfer; football credit cards, reward cards, and 0% purchase credit cards. I would also like to have seen something regarding other hot reward cards like they did for football. Not all of us are football fans, but some are music fans. In fact there are a lot in the younger generations that are music fans. Currently there are credit cards for entertainment that help you purchase tickets to events, concerts and that type of thing. While it is not a necessity to include a specific quick link for this I would have liked to see information regarding these credit cards. As it stands I am unsure of whether they were not included because they weren’t worth talking about for the web designer’s main interest. In other words I don’t know if the entertainment credit cards are something I would be interested in, as I did not find a comparison to the other reward cards.
There are other comparisons on the website as well. This website is not just about credit cards all though that is the main focus. The website also talks about loans including payday loans, savings, and other types of accounts. They are offering articles with the idea of educating the public over trying to be biased towards one bank or the other. You will find the information offered has been researched and offered in simple terms regarding loans and other accounts. They also give you a list of the loans available through some of the banks. At this point I only see four banks listed on the web site and hope they will add a few more to compare. They tell the bank it comes from as well as the APR. I would think that there would be more than four loan types to choose from.
So overall this site is an excellent resource for finding your next credit card but it could improve the selection of bank accounts and loans that it offers for comparison.
