ACRL/TLT E-Learning Seminar. Thinking Like A Designer
September 7, 2007 on 2:47 pm | In Conferences & calls for programs, Information Literacy, Tools for teaching | No CommentsThinking Like a Designer: How Blended Librarians Can Use Design Thinking for Better Information Literacy Collaboration
An ACRL/TLT Group Online Seminar
September 25-October 2, 2007
(two 90-minute sessions)
Registration information is at the bottom of this page.
Live Webcasts: Tuesdays, 3:00-4:30 p.m. Eastern
Seminar Leaders:
Steven Bell, Temple University and John Shank, Penn State University
Workshop Goal:
To help participants identify techniques and tools that will enable academic librarians, faculty members, information technologists, instructional design professionals, et al. to discover or develop and implement new approaches for collaboration, to achieve maximum integration of the library into the teaching and learning process throughout their institutions. To help guide such collaborative efforts toward library, curricular, and other related institutional goals - especially those of advancing information literacy.
Workshop Description:
There is an extensive body of literature on information literacy and the importance of librarian-faculty collaboration in achieving it. The workshop will bring a new perspective on information literacy and collaboration through a conceptual framework the workshop leaders refer to as “Blended Librarianship.”
External forces threaten to marginalize the role of the academic library: these forces increase the need for “information literacy” knowledge and skills among students, faculty, and others whose professions require their effective use of new information resources Continue reading ACRL/TLT E-Learning Seminar. ARL/ACRL announce first regional Institute on Scholarly Communication
August 16, 2007 on 1:25 pm | In Conferences & calls for programs | No CommentsThe Association of Research Libraries (ARL) and the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) announce the first regional Institute for Scholarly Communication, hosted by the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI) December 5-7, 2007, in Chicago. This immersive learning experience prepares participants to become local experts within their libraries. Participants, who are encouraged to attend in teams, will become fluent with scholarly communication issues and trends and begin developing outreach plans for their campuses.
“A regional event allows us to support institutions that would not, for whatever reason, attend a national event,” commented Kara Malenfant, Scholarly Communications and Government Relations Specialist at ACRL,”and CARLI makes a wonderful first partner.” Karla Hahn, Director of ARL’s Office of Scholarly Communication noted, “we see this move to a regional event as a natural evolution in the life of the institute. It will enable us to refocus our national efforts to meet the changing needs of the library community.”
Acceptance to the Illinois ARL/ACRL Institute on Scholarly Communication is competitive; participation is limited to 100 to ensure an environment that fosters group interaction and active participation. Institutions from Illinois will receive preferred consideration, and seats are reserved for 20 participants outside the state. Applications will be accepted until September 14, 2007. Find complete details on the CARLI Web site: http://www.carli.illinois.edu/institute07.html
Consortia or other institutions that may be interested in hosting the next regional Institute on Scholarly Communication should contact Julia Blixrud, Assistant Executive Director, External Relations, ARL, jblix@arl.org.
ACRL Plagiarism Webinar - The Role of the Librarian in Combating Student Plagiarism
July 31, 2007 on 5:06 pm | In Conferences & calls for programs | No CommentsI attended this webinar on July 12, presented by ACRL and featuring Lynn Lampert of CSU Northridge. She was extremely knowledgeable about the issues surrounding student plagiarism and information literacy. Lynn, who is a former colleague of Jeff Williams, is willing to present an onsite workshop here for us, and she would be able to customize the workshop to our needs. Since she’s close by, it would be fairly easy to arrange.
For ACRL’s overview of the webinar, go here.
For the presenter’s slides, contact me and I’ll email them to you. (I was going to upload them here, but the file size exceeds the upload limit.)
