The list of services we might want to highlight (as mentioned at the meeting) include:

1) Group/Study Rooms — web page exists for Study Spaces
2) Computing @ the Library — web page?? found a FAQ about computers & wireless and also a Computer Labs page, but it is not a very spiffy page & wireless info is only available on sub-pages 3) Ask a Librarian — web page for Ask-a-Librarian, this link is for tab with all libraries listed instead of the overview page
4) Course Reserves — web page for Course Reserves
5) Library Locations — web page for Libraries & Collections

Additional thoughts about services to highlight or the images that should go with them?

Reaching Out to Students When They Talk and Text

November 13, 2007 on 4:24 pm | In Articles | No Comments

From The NYT Online

Can the Bloomberg administration convince thousands of low-achieving students that succeeding in school is actually, well, cool?

It wants to try. The city is planning an intensive campaign that would use cellphones to help motivate students, most of them minorities and from poor families, in two dozen schools. The pilot program will include mentoring and incentives for high performance, like free concerts and sporting events and free minutes and ring tones for their phones. Every student in each of the schools will be given a cellphone.

The effort, officials said, will use text messages — drawn up by an advertising agency and sent over the phones — that promote achievement.

Schools Chancellor Joel I. Klein said the project was the city’s first attempt to bring about change in the culture and behavior of low-performing students after years of efforts focusing on school structure and teaching.

“How do you get people to think about achievement in communities where, for historical or other reasons, there isn’t necessarily demand for that,” Mr. Klein said yesterday in an interview. “We want to create an environment where kids know education is something you should want. Some people come to school with an enormous appetite for learning and others do not — that’s the reality.” Continue reading Reaching Out to Students When They Talk and Text…
