Friday Aug 8: Taylor & Francis, NetBase outages expected
August 8, 2008 on 7:44 am | In Outages | No CommentsWe’ve been alerted that two of our electronic resource packages will be down for maintenance in the afternoon and early evening, Friday, August 8th. These include e-books in the “NetBase” series as well as e-journals from the Taylor & Francis/InformaWorld publisher. How do you know if a journal is from this publisher? On our e-journals web pages, the publisher is usually indicated next to the title. In UC E-Links, the publisher or package name is usually indicated in the link to full text.
Blackwell Online Journals Unavailable
June 26, 2008 on 2:00 pm | In Outages | No CommentsWe are currently unable to access online journals published by Blackwell. Because of the acquisition of Blackwell Publishing by Wiley Publishing, Blackwell online journal content was moved to the Wiley online journal platform this weekend. It was hoped that the Blackwell journals would be available this morning, unfortunately we are currently being denied access. This is effecting all the UC campuses, and UC staff are working to have this resolved as soon as possible.
Sorry for any inconvenience.

UC E-Links not working with PubMed (4/4/07) - RESOLVED
April 4, 2008 on 2:41 pm | In Outages | No Comments** update ** this issue has now been reported as resolved. We have done a little spot-checking and we’re able to get to full text, Roger, and Request screens normally. Please let us know if you find anything amiss! - 4/7/08
UC E-Links is currently not working with PubMed - it’s not picking up any data about the citations, so no links to full text or print holdings are showing up. The problem is at PubMed’s end and the folks who run UC e-Links are working with the PubMed technical group to solve it. In the meantime, here are two workarounds:
1. Although PubMed is our preferred interface, we also have access to the MEDLINE database via the ISI Web of Knowledge interface at http://isiknowledge.com/medline. The UC E-Links are working there, including Request.
OR
2. Use PubMed for searching and use our catalog Roger, to determine whether we own the items. You can open PubMed in one browser window or tab and the Roger journal search page (http://roger.ucsd.edu/search~S2) in another window/tab. Search for journal titles in Roger to see if we have the item electronically or in print.
If you run into an item in PubMed and you can’t tell if we have it, please contact us for help.

Outage: Blackwell-Synergy journals 3-5 pm Friday
October 5, 2007 on 8:34 am | In Outages | No CommentsBlackwell-Synergy journals will be unavailable, Friday, October 5th from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm due to the publisher’s “system maintenance”. The outage should last only those 2 hours - or maybe less.
PubMed and UC e-Links
October 4, 2007 on 5:47 pm | In Outages, Resource News | No CommentsLinks to online journal content has disappeared from PubMed - this includes our UC e-Links buttons as well as direct-to-publisher link buttons. This is a problem at the National Library of Medicine and they are working on it - it affects many organizations, not just UC. In the meantime, the quickest approach to getting to your articles will be to have a second browser window or tab open to Roger’s Journal Title Search page, located here:
http://roger.ucsd.edu/search~S2
Copy the journal title you want from PubMed and paste it into the title search box and you should be able to find the Roger record for that journal and if we have the journal online you can browse down to the item you need. Many official PubMed journal abbreviations are in Roger, but not all of them - so you may need to type in the complete journal title rather than the abbreviation. Hint: in the Summary display of search results, hovering over the journal title abbreviation will pop up a little box with the full title.
InfoCommons computer problems
July 23, 2007 on 12:27 pm | In Information Commons, Outages | No CommentsMost of the computers in our Information Commons and 24-hour graduate study are not working at present. Academic Computing Services is having problems with the process that “builds” lab computers like ours. Unfortunately, we don’t have an exact estimate for when the problem will be fixed. We do have about 10-15 computers working, as well as the 22 InfoStations which are not part of the Commons.
