New Incoming Undergraduates: TritonLink/MyApplication Password Not Working for Email?
If you are a new incoming undergraduate who last set your password through TritonLink or MyApplication a long time ago and it does not seem to work to access your ACS email account, it may be that the original password you set was not secure enough to be used for your ACS account, or you may have last set your password before your ACS email account was created (which was after you accepted admission).
If your password works for TritonLink but does not work for your ACS account (email and lab/server access) you will need to reset it using the ACS Global Password Change tool (gpasswd).
If your current TritonLink Password does not work to authenticate yourself to run gpasswd and set your email password, you may need to
create a new password IN TRITONLINK. If you are unable to create a new password directly in TritonLink, follow the directions you receive there (the most common problems are answering your security question incorrectly, or selecting a new password (or trying to re-assert an old one) that does not meet the email password complexity requirements).
Once you do create a new password in TritonLink (or gpasswd), it will definitely work for email but you need to wait for your password to propagate to your email server. Don’t just change your password over and over trying to get it to work immediately for acs-webmail - it can take up to 30 minutes for the password to propagate to your email server. When you do log in to acs-webmail, be sure you are specifying not only your username and password, but your mail server.

How do I know which server to use when trying to sign in to my ucsd e-mail account?
May 3rd, 2008 at 10:19 pm
I have successfully created an email account. I can send emails, and other people can receive them. But I can’t receive emails from other people (either that, or it’s taking very, very long). What is wrong?

ACS is still in the process of completing email account setup for new Fall 2008 admits. With over 19,000 new students the process may take up to a few weeks. Please be patient and try your email account towards the end of the week.

Quynh, first please make sure you give us a way to contact you. If you can’t read your email, we can’t email you about how to fix that ;). Second, you should be contacting our help desk instead of commenting on our blog: acs-help@ucsd.edu or 858-534-3ACS.

For the login do I use the new username ucsd gave me or the old one starting with an A?
May 21st, 2008 at 6:09 pm
Khrysten, you would login to your e-mail using your new username provided. The “old one starting with an A” is not your username, but your student ID or PID. If you have further questions, please e-mail acs-help@ucsd.edu or 858-534-3227.

ACS can reset your password if you bring a picture ID to the ACS helpdesk at 1313 AP&M M-F 8-4:30.
If you can’t make it in you will have to try again with Tritonlink.

Hi,
Incoming prospective student here.
I reset my password a couple of weeks ago and everything worked out fine since I was able to access my email. Yesterday, however, I was not able to log on so I changed my password thinking that would work. I know about the message that it might take 30 minutes for the password change to propagate to the server but it has been hours already. I really need to check my email because I’m waiting for some orientation email and some other important deadline information!!!!

My e-mail continues not to work. It keeps telling me that my password is incorrect. I have changed my password going on 5 times now and it will not allow me to log in. Can someone figure out what the problem is please? This is starting to become very frustrating

I changed my password successfully and this website will not let me log into my email account. I don’t know which server I should choose but no matter what i’ve chosen it won’t let me set up my account, it keeps saying error. This is very discouraging, as UCSD is sending me important information to this email account and I am unable to read anything. Please help!

the system does not let me log in as well ive have changed my passwords over and over again but no matter what i change it to i continue to not be able to log in =/ help someone! i feel so out of touch with the school now!

The most common reason for passwords not working right now is an insecure password. The Tritonlink system allows passwords with dictionary words in them, but the ACS system does not, and our system silently fails to set the password. Follow the instructions outlined in the post, making sure you are using a password that has no dictionary words and follows the ACS password guidelines, and your new password should work.
If you are still having issues after trying this, contact the ACS Helpdesk (acs-help@ucsd.edu, 858-534-3227) and a technician will help you with your issue.
